Knowbility & Bee Cave
Accessibility means making technology, including websites, available to everyone, including people with disabilities. Knowbility’s mission is to support the independence of children and adults with disabilities by promoting the use and improving the availability of accessible information technology.
Through a Knowbility sponsored competition, the Bee Cave Public Library website now offers improved features, built with Accessibility in mind, which will further our mission to provide information and enhance lifelong learning for all in our community. Furthermore, the City of Bee Cave has adopted a universal design philosophy and has made a commitment to ensure that future technology projects will embrace “barrier-free IT” solutions. The Bee Cave Public Library is the first Department to include Accessibility as part of the city’s overall desire to become an intelligent city of the future.
Accessibility Features
This website features unique designs that provide greater access for individuals with disabilities, including text-to-speech support and simple navigation tools. Specifically, alternative text has been used for most of the website images, providing instructions for text-to-speech and all-text browsers.
Where necessary, descriptions with titles have been added to each hyperlink. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and relative units have also been used to control the width of text on each page, which allows users to adjust the width of the browser without causing horizontal scrolling. This allows displayed text to flow well when resized, and font sizes can be adjusted using browser settings. Below is a link to an instructional video on how to resize text in your Internet browser.
In addition, the following features have been added to the top of each page:
A link to skip the navigation.
